Activity Report for Week of January 21 – January 27

  • At the Academic Deans meeting on Tuesday we discussed enrollment numbers for the spring and application numbers for the fall of 2017. Retention of first year students has improved over last year, but not by as much as we had hoped.  The Assurance Report that is being prepared for our Higher Learning Commission team visit in the fall of 2017 will be released section by section for review and editing.  Because of the discontinuous nature of the report, section by section release actually makes for an easier review experience.
  • At the Centralized Advising Taskforce meeting on Thursday, we set up several sub-committees– one to deal with strategies for maintaining close ties with faculty members; one to deal with the roles of advisors in colleges and how to ensure that those roles were not lost in the move to centralized advising; one to deal with the role of advisors in Aggie Welcomes and Orientations; and one to deal with the training needs of advisors. A good amount of time at the meeting was devoted to a discussion of Aggie orientations and how to better utilize advisors and faculty members at these events.
