On Monday morning, April 9, I met with a team of senior administrators and the Chancellor to discuss progress on projects we are trying to complete before June 30th of this year. During this meeting I discussed the work of Team 6, the outcome of the Vice President for Research search, and progress on the San Luis Potosi campus. The meeting brought into focus the many initiatives that have been completed over the past five years and the promise of those that are nearing completion.
The NMSU General Education Taskforce met on Friday, April 13 to continue the discussion of how to bring NMSU into compliance with the new general education model of the Higher Education Department, which will go into effect in the fall of 2019. A central focus of the discussion on Friday was the First-Year Seminar, an interdisciplinary seminar that will be a fundamental feature of the new curriculum being planned for NMSU. Because of the difficulties associated with developing a large number of seminars in a single year, the plan is to phase in the seminars over a two- to four-year time period.
