Academic Departmental Program Review
Academic departmental program review is a process of regular and systematic evaluation of academic programs that:
- Cultivates, promotes, and fosters valuable, cost-effective programs
- Ensures that programs meet the existing and emerging needs of students
- Guarantees program alignment with the role and mission of New Mexico State University
Historically, NMSU used the Higher Learning Commission institutional accreditation cycle as an opportunity to review academic programs. NMSU is now implementing a process of academic program review, which will be summarized for institutional accreditation.
The academic departmental program review process will help NMSU maintain and enhance program quality and foster future program development through continuous and intentional strategic planning. This occurs through 1) in-depth assessment of program alignment of curriculum, operations, and resources with the institution’s mission and strategic plan, and 2) clear identification of program strengths and challenges.
Ultimately, the process of academic departmental program review is used to promote institutional effectiveness by facilitating intentional and informed decision-making and strategic planning.
