Commencement Dec. 10, 2016: A New Role for the Faculty

provost-dan-howardThe Commencement Ceremony for NMSU-Las Cruces will experience significant changes this fall. The change that will be most meaningful for our students and our faculty will be the opportunity for faculty members to personally congratulate students as they exit the stage after being recognized.

We know how important faculty members are to our students, and how important students are to our faculty members. The ability to share this very special moment with one of your students, or one of your mentees, will make the ceremony much more meaningful for both you and your students.

Another change is that faculty members will be invited to join administrators and regents for breakfast in the Barbara Hubbard Room of the Pan Am Center prior to Commencement. This will give all of us a chance to connect with friends and colleagues over some good food and coffee, and share the joy and excitement of this very special day. I hope many of you will join us.

Next week you will receive a message from Vice President Montoya describing additional roles that faculty members can play at Commencement, as well as the process by which faculty members can confirm seating arrangement and attendance. Please be on the watch for that message.

I have heard the roar of many crowds, but none match the joyous roar of a packed-to-the-rafters Pan Am Center on Commencement Day. Join the celebration and recognize your students.

With all best wishes,
