The most important event of last week for me was the meeting of the Board of Regents. The meeting began with a discussion of the Center for Academic Advising and Student Support (CAASS) and University 150 courses. Eventually, we moved on to a presentation of the university’s budget for fiscal year 2019. Among the topics of discussion was a compensation increase for university employees. The Board approved a flat payment of $1,000 for non-exempt employees making less than $50,000 a year, and a 2 percent compensation pool for exempt employees and faculty. Raises for exempt employees and faculty will be merit based and unit directors will be responsible for developing plans for allocating raise dollars. In order to allow the next Chancellor to play a role in approving these plans, the Board approved a motion that provided for compensation increases to go into effect no later than September 1, 2018.
