Compensation Guidelines for FY 2023-24

Date: May 15, 2023

To: NMSU System Faculty and Staff

From: Alan Shoho, Provost & Ruth Johnston, Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer

Subject: Compensation Guidelines for FY 2023-24

As you are aware, the Legislature approved a 6% compensation increase for all NMSU system faculty and staff, effective July 1, 2023.

Faculty

  1. Regular full-time and regular part-time faculty hired prior to January 12, 2023, with current demonstrated performance of satisfactory or better will receive a 6% base salary adjustment
  2. Faculty salary increases will be effective for the new contract period (July 1 for 12-month faculty and August 14 for 9-month faculty)
  3. In addition to the 6% across-the-board appropriated for all staff, the Legislature appropriated additional dollars for salaried targeted specifically to Faculty. Faculty Senate provided input regarding the priorities for allocations. The Provost's Office is developing a plan for how to distribute those dollars.

Staff

  1. Regular full-time and regular part-time staff hired prior to January 1, 2023, with a current overall performance evaluation rating of "Successful/Effective performance" or higher will receive a 6% base salary adjustment
  2. Salary increases will be effective July 1, 2023

Performance Evaluations

Providing employees with performance feedback and annual evaluations is a critical supervisor responsibility. All faculty and staff should have a 2022-23 annual evaluation on file.

Processing Annual Increase

Based on the guidelines described above, salary increases will be processed centrally, so no action is required by you. Individual salary letters will be uploaded in the employee self-serve portal around July 1, 2023.

Budget and Pay Schedules

  • FY2023-24 pay increases for non-I&G positions will need to be funded by the individual departments
  • Pay schedules will remain unchanged for the July 1 distribution
