Community Engagement, Extension, and Outreach Award

The Community Engagement, Extension and Outreach Award was developed by Provost Carol Parker in 2021. The award recognizes faculty and faculty-led organizations in good standing with the university who best exemplify NMSU LEADS 2025 Goal 3, Amplify Extension and Outreach. The recipient is selected from applications by the NMSU LEADS 2025 Goal Team 3.

"The great thing about the Community Engagement, Outreach and Extension Award is that it recognizes faculty and faculty-led organization's efforts that are sometimes forgotten. Few articles are published in established journals that highlight the acts of faculty at our land grant university when it comes to simply doing something for somebody else. Student and peer evaluations don't reflect all those things that we do outside the classroom. The Community Engagement, Outreach and Extension Award finally lets us all see those things that faculty do because they are passionate about making the world just a little bit better."

Aggies Without Limits

Fall 2021 Recipient

Aggies Without Limits was founded in 2007 under the leadership of longtime Engineering Technology faculty member Kenny Stevens. It is dedicated to bringing students, faculty and community members together to assist with the development of local and international communities through sustainable infrastructure and educational opportunities.

Over 250 students, faculty, alumni and community members have participated since the organization’s founding. Aggies Without Limits has student members from every college at NMSU, as well as alumni in 26 states and 3 countries.

Projects have included:

  • building and repairing bridges in multiple countries
  • building a community center in Mexico
  • bringing drinkable water to 350 Guatemala residents, which included hand digging ditches and installing a pipeline

As Dr. Lakshmi Reddi, Dean of the College of Engineering stated, "Over the years, these projects have improved the lives of countless people, spread local and international goodwill, and changed the lives and perspectives of students who will now carry on acts of humanity. This group has changed lives all over the world in ways that cannot be measured."

"There is nothing like the joy we get when we finish a project after basically starting from nothing - and seeing the faces of the people we impacted. It's like we plant seeds of hope - in the kids, in the women, in the community...hope in humanity. And turning hope into real things."
