We Are NMSU – June 3, 2024

Dear colleagues,

I am looking forward to the Data Summit, which my office is coordinating on Thursday, June 6. This is a wonderful opportunity for all stakeholders to come together and exchange insights on our challenges and opportunities. Please let us know if your unit needs to be represented but has not been contacted by our staff.

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with the Information Technology leadership and learn about the IT initiatives on campus. I was particularly impressed with their strategic planning process and their commitment to achieving their goals. I would like to share with the campus community the top 10 priorities they are pursuing as a result of their strategic analyses.

  1. Succession planning
  2. Network security
  3. Adequate staffing
  4. IT governance
  5. IT business continuity
  6. Data governance
  7. Budget and resources
  8. Customer support/Process improvement
  9. Institutional knowledge
  10. Professional development

Their core values of innovation and customer-centricity support positive academic and personal growth. Last weekend, they completed the migration of the Banner ERP system to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The behind-the-scenes work done by our IT staff is essential to ensure effective and secure operations across all units.

As we transition into summer, I appreciate the behind-the-scenes work of many of our support units. We have a team of staff dedicated to clearing the HR backlog in this break. Our 12-month staff are very active during this recess, and I am humbled by their readiness and willingness to assist with critical issues, even during off-hours Our staff embody a culture of mutual support, working without expectation of recognition. We are NMSU.
