We Are NMSU — April 10, 2025
Dear colleagues,
One of the most significant milestones in an academic career is the achievement of promotion and tenure. It is not only a reflection of individual distinction in teaching, research, and service — it is also a testament to the impact our faculty have on students, the university, and their fields of study.
Promotion and tenure represent a deep commitment to scholarly advancement, student success, and the mission of our institution. It is earned through years of hard work, dedication, and meaningful contributions to academic life. These achievements help to strengthen our university community and ensure its continued growth and vitality.
Please join me in congratulating and celebrating this year's P&T recipients.

I extend my sincere appreciation to the departmental P&T committees, department heads, college-wide committees, and deans for their dedication to this process and for their timely reviews of the candidates’ credentials. I would also like to thank Patricia MacGregor-Mendoza, Provost Fellow, for her valuable support to both Deputy Provost McAteer and me in maintaining consistency in the P&T processes across all campus units.
Additionally, I would also like to extend special congratulations to Dr. Niall Hanan, Distinguished Professor in the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, on his nomination for the Conference USA Faculty Achievement and Professor of the Year Award. Dr. Hannan was selected by a committee consisting of our athletic representatives.
A leading expert in dryland and grazing systems ecology, Dr. Hanan has secured over $20 million in research funding and published extensively in top journals such as Science and Nature. His global impact, including collaborations with NASA, USAID, and the World Bank, has earned him prestigious honors such as a Fulbright Scholarship and recognition as a National Geographic Explorer.
As we celebrate these accomplishments, let us continue to support and encourage one another in our shared pursuit of academic distinction and student success. We are NMSU.
Sincerly,
Lakshmi N. Reddi
