We Are NMSU – June 5, 2025

Dear colleagues,

International students are a vital part of the NMSU community. They bring global perspectives, enrich our academic environment, and strengthen our mission as a land-grant university. As part of our commitment to supporting their well-being and success, all international students are required to maintain proof of health insurance while enrolled at NMSU.

Beginning Fall 2025, NMSU will offer two enhanced health insurance plans through GeoBlue, providing expanded coverage at a more affordable cost. Each plan includes full coverage for visits and prescriptions at the Aggie Health and Wellness Center – with no deductible, co-pay, or coinsurance – and offers additional benefits such as:

  • Global emergency services (e.g., repatriation, medical evacuation)
  • Academic Live Care (telehealth with $0 copay)
  • Academic Student Assist Program
  • Academic Vision Care

These plans meet U.S. Department of State insurance requirements. All international students must enroll in one of the two plans by the census deadline of Sept. 5, 2025, for the Fall 2025 semester. Informational sessions will be offered prior to the start of the semester to guide the selection process.

In addition, we are also pleased to announce the creation of the International Programs and Compliance (IPC) Office, which will consolidate and expand services currently provided by International Student and Scholar Services and Education Abroad. The IPC Office will support:

  • I-20 and DS-2019 document issuance
  • Assistance with cybersecurity compliance during international travel
  • Coordination of international health insurance
  • Cultural programming and global engagement
  • Education abroad and faculty led international programs
  • International scholarship support
  • Passport issuance

A director will be appointed to lead this office, and staffing transitions are underway. In the meantime, please continue working with existing offices as usual.

Thank you for your continued support as we strengthen our commitment to international engagement at NMSU. We are NMSU.

Sincerely,
Lakshmi N. Reddi
