We Are NMSU – May 22, 2025

Dear colleagues,

I am excited to share several new developments that reflect the growing momentum at NMSU – advancing innovation, engagement, and institutional impact.

Imagining America 2025 National Gathering

We are proud to announce that New Mexico State University will host the 2025 Imagining America National Gathering, October 3 to 5, 2025, in Las Cruces. This prominent national event, presented in collaboration with the University of California, Davis, will bring together scholars, artists, students, and community leaders under the theme: "All This Is Temporary: Experiments in Collective Care, Coalition Imagination, and Radical Hospitality".

As a land-grant, Hispanic-serving Institution, NMSU is uniquely positioned to lead critical conversations that bridge scholarship and public life. We encourage faculty, staff, and students to participate – by attending, presenting, and/or volunteering.

Institute for Applied Practice in AI & Machine Learning

We are also excited to announce the launch of the Institute for Applied Practice in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at NMSU. With initial investment from the state of New Mexico, this institute positions NMSU as a leader in applied AI research, workforce development, and interdisciplinary innovation.

Under the leadership of Dr. Enrico Pontelli, Senior Advisor for AI and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the institute will:

  • Advance cross-disciplinary research in AI,
  • Foster innovation across sectors such as agriculture, water management, healthcare, education, and Cybersecurity, and
  • Promote equitable access to AI education and workforce opportunities across the state.

Coming soon: myNMSU 2.0

We are preparing to launch myNMSU 2.0, a redesigned platform that will enhance how students, faculty, and staff interact with academic, financial, and operational tools. Built with a focus on user experience, myNMSU 2.0 will streamline access and functionality across the university. More details - including training sessions and support resources – will be shared soon to ensure a smooth transition.

These initiatives reflect our shared commitment to innovation, collaboration, and inclusive excellence. They remind us of what's possible when we come together – with vision and purpose. We are more than a university. We are a community. We are NMSU.

Sincerely,

Lakshmi N. Reddi
