We Are NMSU – November 11, 2024

Dear colleagues,

The recent Symposium for Energy Research and Innovation (SERI) Conference at the Las Cruces Convention Center served as a powerful testament to NMSU's leadership in STEM education and research. Our faculty, whose groundbreaking work attracts valuable funding, exemplifies how our dedication to STEM disciplines shapes not only the future of our students but also the industries that will rely on their talents. Thank you, Dr. Susan Brown, for your leadership.

This commitment to inspiring the next generation was beautifully illustrated during the Energy Career Fair and Symposium on November 1, where nearly 3,000 middle and high school students from across Las Cruces had the chance to explore exciting careers in the energy sector. Events like these, which provide hands-on learning experiences, lay the foundation for lifelong curiosity and skill development in STEM. Thank you, Dr. Patricia Sullivan and Ms. Sara Patricolo, for leading these efforts.

We are also deeply connected to our surrounding community, and last week's visit from Las Cruces city officials emphasized our collaborative potential. From "Smart City" initiatives to sustainable community projects, our ongoing discussions are uncovering numerous opportunities for partnership. With faculty and staff already engaged in community outreach, these interactions only deepen our shared vision of positive impact.

On a lighter note, events like the Employee Council luncheon bring our NMSU family together, celebrating the hard work and dedication of our staff. Serving as a judge for the festive pumpkin and costume contests reminded me how these gatherings foster camaraderie and reinforce the strong sense of community that makes NMSU a great place to work and learn. Thank you, Ms. Donna Johnson, for your leadership in getting this event organized. We are NMSU, and these social get-together enhance our working environment by brining out the lighter side of us.
