RE: Provost Fellows Program: Supporting Transitions and Faculty Development
The Office of Academic Affairs has greatly benefited from faculty who served in the past, or are currently serving, as Provost Fellows. These Fellows have played key roles in supporting transitions within the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, particularly with program assessments and reviews (Drs. Ryan Goss and Sarah Dougherty, and Ms. Barbara Gamillo). Additionally, Dr. Patricia MacGregor-Mendoza has led initiatives focused on faculty success. Our newest Provost Fellow, Dr. Gabe Garcia, will be assisting with a similar transition in the Office of Institutional Analysis. Other administrative offices on campus are also actively exploring Faculty Fellow appointments to address specific projects.
The strong response to our calls for Provost Fellows demonstrates faculty interest in these roles and an eagerness to explore administrative career paths. To provide more opportunities for faculty to serve in these roles, we will limit each Fellow’s tenure to a maximum of two academic years. For projects requiring continuity, we will arrange for a semester overlap between outgoing and incoming Fellows.
I remain confident that NMSU has outstanding faculty members poised to become excellent administrators, and I look forward to these Fellow appointments continuing to engage their interest.
